Louisa May Alcott
Louisa May Alcott is yet another female author who had refused the ties of marriage. She was the writer behind the famous novel, Little Women. This famous writer’s choice to remain single all her life raised some brows in her conservative society. She was once quoted after visiting her married friend that her friend’s “nest” was “very sweet and pretty, but I’d rather be a free spinster and paddle my own canoe.”

Condoleezza Rice
The number of successful, single women seems to be on the rise. Condoleezza Rice is the epitome of this phenomenon. She is a well-known policymaker of the U.S. and was the 2005 to 2009 U.S. Secretary of State. She hasn’t been married yet despite having been engaged in the past to the NFL player Rick Upchurch.
