Allan, while his son worked for the state, worked as an engineer and trucker.

Jermaine asked Allan a lot of questions about his mother when he was growing up. His dad lied to him about that, however. He simply answered that while giving birth to him, she died but remained vague about it. Jermaine recalls mothers picking up friends as a child. It was sad that the same thing he did not get to experience. Until he was 33 years old, he did not know that his mother was actually alive and well.
