The film earned over $677 million worldwide in 1994 and won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Leading Actor. Not only could this film take over the hearts of many in America, but citizens around the globe ran head-to-head for a ticket.

Sequels of the film are typically not quite as successful as the original, but this was a special case where the movie’s sequel was handled very well. Amazing stars such as Al Pacino and Robert De Niro were included in the ensemble, and Francis Ford Coppola directed it, so you already know it’s going to be nice. The Godfather’s first installment was such a big success that Paramount Pictures didn’t even think twice about producing a sequel. Coppola was unclear at first about the fate of this follow-up project, but he realized it would be amazing after rewriting portions of the screenplay.
