“Yes,” the woman snapped, “Now excuse me. They will call y’all after we board.” This was when Emmit became confused. Why was this woman so sure he was in the wrong line waiting for her? Why was she singling him out? He started getting annoyed. He took his ticket out of his wallet and showed it to the woman to prove that he was supposed to be where he was. While he owed no explanation of any kind to her, he thought the argument would put an end to it. But he had been mistaken.

The woman looked absolutely scandalized. She frowned and loudly told her friends something, making sure Emmit could hear her as well. “He must be military or something,” she moaned, passive-aggressively. “But we paid for our seats, so he still should have to wait.” Emmit couldn’t trust what she was saying. However, he didn’t want to create a scene at the airport. He tried to think of excuses for her behavior. She presumed that he could not afford a first-class ticket. Was she implying what she thought she was?
