The Fourth Duke In Edinburgh History
The Duke of Edinburgh title was only brought about in 1726, with the first Duke being Prince Frederick. Frederick passed it onto his son but the title was then not used for approximately over 100 years. Queen Victoria restored it and gave the title to her son, Prince Alfred in 1866. Alfred did not produce any succeeding heirs and the title was then only resurrected when given to Prince Philip in 1947.
