Celebrities face a lot of pressure being in the public eye 24/7; they’re expected to look and act a certain way. Although it’s never talked about, there’s an unspoken rule in Hollywood saying that you should never be seen in the same outfit twice. We’re glad that some celebrities are pushing back against this old phenomenon and re-wearing their favorite outfits. Check out these A-listers who have no shame in wearing an outfit twice (or even 3 times!).
Jane Fonda’s red Elie Saab gown is a show-stopper. The photo on the left was taken at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014 and the one on the right is from this year’s Academy Awards. The gown is covered in jewels and has an open back. The fiery red color looks great with her, then blonde hair and now, grey hair.
If the Editor in Chief of Vogue Magazine re-wears clothes then so can we! Anna Wintour, one of the most influential people in fashion, has worn this Lanvin red-flowered dress twice; once at a Moet & Chandon event and once at Paris Fashion Week in the Yves Saint Laurent show. The dress looks great with both necklaces and with the addition of that chic crocodile jacket.
Cara Delevigne knows how to make her style versatile better than anyone. Cara wore this Zuhair Murad shirt during the day and at night; both of her outfits were stunning. It’s Cara Delevigne, did we expect anything less?
When you’re in the spotlight as much as Kim Kardashian is, you learn what works for your body and what doesn’t. She clearly knows a matching camel dress and jacket accentuate her curves so it’s no surprise she’s donned this look more than once!
Back in 2004 at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, Elizabeth Banks stunned in this red strappy gown. The actress decided to break it out of her closet once more for the 2020 Academy Awards, this time pairing it with a stunning diamond necklace. Elizabeth herself said, “I’m upcycling this dress — I wore this dress for the first time to Vanity Fair in 2004 and, we very rarely get a dress gifted to us. Badgley Mischka made this dress for me. Back then, I was in ‘Seabiscuit,’ which was a big Oscar nominee, and they gave it to me and I recently moved and found it in the back of the closet. It’s gorgeous and it fits…so why not wear it again!?”
Meryl Streep was beaming in the American flag-printed shirt dress she wore to the “Doubt” Paris photo-call back in 2009. Meryl wore the dress yet again, this time in 2016 to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Celebrities like Julia Roberts, Halle Berry, and Sharon Stone have also worn the Catherine Malandrino patriotic dress.
This halter dress is too cute for Michelle Obama not to wear it twice! The soft, stretch material makes it easy to move in; check out her running in the right photograph! Even the First Lady isn’t afraid to rock a dress 2 times.
British model Naomi Campbell looked stunning on the catwalk in 1998 wearing this silver Versace dress. Naomi put on the dress a second time in 2015 for the Fragrance Foundation Awards. Despite the 17 years that went by between each wear, she looks just as stunning!
British singer Harry Styles wore a heart-print shirt to his birthday in 2013 and again just 6 months later to the One Direction: This Is Us premiere. Harry shows us that even men can wear an outfit twice and look great doing it.
English model Kate Moss was first seen wearing this feather-fringed black strapless dress at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival with then-boyfriend Jonny Depp. In 2004, she was seen donning it once again but this time to Coty’s 100th Anniversary Celebration in NYC. Even the most famous models in the world repeat their outfits!
Cate Blanchett loves pushing the boundaries with her fashion choices. This Aouadi Paris black dress she wore in 2015 at the 53rd NYC Film Festival did just that. In 2018, she turned heads again when she re-wore the sheer “tattooed” sleeved dress to the American Film Institute’s 46th Life Achievement Award Gala.
Actress Susan Sarandon rocked this printed little black dress at The Last of Robin Hood movie premiere. Just 2 years later, she wore the very same dress to the premiere of the musical Hamilton on Broadway. This understated dress is timeless and looks great with her fiery red hair.
Italian actress Sophia Loren attended the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards in this gorgeous long-sleeve gown with transparent sleeves. Just a year later, she wore the very same dress again at the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy ceremony.
Indian actress Padma Lakshmi wore this sexy red gown to the Vogue India Women of the Year Awards in 2017. She attended the 2018 Emmy Awards in the exact same J.Mendel gown and can we just say…she looks fabulous!!! The star claims she wanted to pay homage to the designer’s time and effort spent creating the masterpiece.
A little black dress is a staple every woman must have in their closet. When comedian Mindy Kaling found this number she knew it would make an appearance time and time again. We love the polka dot sheer detailing on the top and we’re sure Mindy does too!
Helen Mirren clearly loves this green flower print Dolce & Gabbana dress- she’s worn it over 6 times! She definitely knows how to switch up her look by pairing the dress with different colored cardigans and stockings, purses and shoes. She looks great in every single look!
When you love a dress so much, why not wear it twice? Even the Royals do it! Meghan wore this striped dress in 2018 in Sydney, Australia and then again one year after in South Africa. She chose minimal jewelry for both events, keeping with the casual vibe of the dress.
Puerto Rican actress, dancer and singer Rita Moreno has no shame in repeating an outfit. At this year’s Oscars, she wore the same gorgeous gown she wore when winning an award for West Side Story back in 1962. We must admit, at 88 years old she looks just as fabulous as she did at 31 years old; we hope we age this well!
Back in 2004 at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, Kirsten Dunst wore a lace dress by Christian Lacroix. In 2017, she attended an event in Paris in the very same feminine dress. The first time around she opted for dangly earrings while the second time she paired studs with a longer necklace.
Back in 2017, comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish bought a $4,000 Alexander McQueen gown. We’ve seen her wear the white showstopper 3 times since her purchase: at the premiere of Girls Trip, on SNL and at the Oscars. It’s safe to say she’s getting her money’s worth!
When you own a Roberto Cavalli dress this gorgeous, you must wear it more than once. Sharon Stone is known for her amazing fashion choices on the red carpet, and this is one of them. We have no doubt that Laura Dern loves this cut-out black gown seeing as she’s worn it multiple times over the years. Laura debuted the dress back in 1995 at a gala honoring Whoopi Goldberg; she then wore it again at the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars party. We were lucky enough to see the gown yet again at this year’s Vanity Fair Oscars party.
Jane Fonda 2.0
Jane Fonda makes another appearance on our list; this woman has no shame in re-wearing. The actress and model wore this gorgeous Saint Laurent jacket to the brand’s men’s fall fashion show in 2016. Just over a month later she was seen wearing it again at a UCLA Environment and Sustainability event. As a big proponent of climate change, Jane has vowed to never buy another piece of clothing again.
Helena Bonham Carter
Helena Bonham Carter is quite eccentric when it comes to her style. This scarlet atlas dress is clearly a favorite of hers seeing that she wore it to the Alice in Wonderland movie premiere, the BAFTA’s in London and a tea party for the BAFTA’s in LA. Helena makes sure to create edginess with her choice of unusual accessories.
While most people throw away or give away old clothes, others save them for decades and end up wearing them again. Geri Halliwell is one of those people. The photo on the left was taken at an Oscars party in 2002 and the one on the right was taken in 2014 at a charity event for breast cancer. Apart from a different hairstyle, Geri pretty much looks the same!
Wearing an outfit twice clearly doesn’t mean anything about your financial status- even Kate Middleton does it! Back in 2012, Kate wore this blue gown at the London Olympics and again in 2018 at the Tusk Conservation Awards ceremony. The Duchess of Cambridge opted for a different hairstyle and jewelry when wearing it the second time around.
Cate Blanchett 2.0
Cate Blanchett makes yet another appearance on our list! Back in 2014, she wore this sparkly Armani gown to a dinner to celebrate the designer himself. Fun fact: Cate was the first global beauty ambassador for the brand. Just last year, in 2019 Cate attended the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards wearing the same GA gown.
Even wildly famous celebrities like Jennifer Aniston repeat clothes. The popular actress wore the same dress to a friend’s wedding and to a red carpet event. We love celebrities who don’t care about other’s opinions and just go for it.
