July of 1980 on a lovely Californian summer day- Michelle Kwan was born to her adoring parents. Danny and Estella Kwan were aspiring and loving parents who immigrated from China. The family resided in Torrance, California.

Michelle inherited her figure skating passion, as her siblings, Ron and Karen, were also very interested in ice-skating oriented sports. The little 5-year-old Michelle decided to follow in her siblings’ footsteps.
