The museum reported that there was an upward draft of air inside the tree. This created a scent of a real animal that was carried away, but normally it would be attracted by insects or other animal feeding organisms. The hollowness of the tree made it so that there were dry circumstances and the animal’s skin hardened due to the tannic acid of the oak.
