As the longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II is more than just jewels and crowns. The Queen has tons of responsibility, that is a given. However, being royalty certainly comes with a few perks and benefits. The Queen is an absolute legend and her powers rule all of Britain. It will finally be explained exactly what privileges and cool rules she is allowed to break. Just wait till you see what a baddie she actually is!
Driving Without A License
This is one of the Queen’s exemptions from rules, she does not need a driving license in the U.K. Although she is most likely seen driving around her own private estates and not on public roads it is still a clutch rule. Elizabeth has been diving since she was 19-years old, she learned during her work experience in the wartime Auxillary Territorial Service.
No Speed Limit For Her Majesty
The power of royal prerogative and how we envy it! The Queen may not go driving around public roads but if she wanted to she could go speeding around the entire country, running as many red lights as she pleases. She d0es not have to abide by any road rules or regulations. Basically, if they were ever running late Queen Elizabeth could take the wheel and speed away, anywhere and anytime. Luckily for us, she does not strike us as the road rage type.
The Queen Does Not Need A Passport
This one is not only viable in the U.K but across the globe. Well, passports in the U.K are issued y the Queen so it kinda makes sense she doesn’t need or have one, she naturally would have it. Moreover, she is recognizable across the globe who does not know the Queen? She never has to worry about being denied entry, a visa permit, and well she can jet-off to wherever she would want to. This may be a perk but it is not exactly like the Queen could run away and not be noticed. She is the only member of the Royal Family without one.
She Never Pays Taxes
Legally speaking the queen does not have to pay taxes, this legality is one many truly wish for. However, being the humble and devoted queen she is, Elizabeth has been paying income and capital gain taxes for the past 28 years. She began paying taxes in 1992, this truly shows what kind of a leader and person she is. Harry and Meghan have too vowed to pay back the country since separating themselves from te monarchy, this says a lot about what kind of people the Royals are.
The Dolphins In England All Belong To Her
Well, corgi’s are known to be the queen’s favorite animal but since a rule was declared in the 1300s the queen owns more than just her legendary pets. Back in the 1300’s a law was devised that made the reigning monarch owner of all “fishes royal” which means dolphins, porpoises, whales, and sturgeons. If one of these is captured within 3 miles of English waters the queen is able to claim the animal, the same applies if one washes up on shore.
She Purchased A Couple Of Swans
Elizabeth’s love for animals and nature deepens as she and the Royal family are extremely invested in swan life in England. The Palace has the position termed: official Keeper of the Swans. The position dates back 700 years and yearly the Royals hold a swan exhibition or showcasing of some sorts called “Swan Upping.” Elizabeth is the co-owner of every swan that swims in the Thames river, alongside the Worshipful Company of Dyers and the Worshipful Company of Vintners.
Queen E Is A Bond Girl
Queen Elizabeth became a Bond girl in 2012 when London hosted the Olympics. She and Daniel Craig staged a stunt at the opening ceremony, this made her an honorary Bond girl. Daniel Craig and a stunt double skydived into the Olympic STadium, although not the queen herself she agreed to it. She is truly a legend, and the nonagenarian continues to surprise her people and the world at times.
A Personal Poet Is At Her Service
Yes, the queen has a personal poet, another position in the extended royal staff. The position is taken very seriously as the poet is to write poems that honor memorable or honorable occasions. The reigning monarch hires whoever it may be. In 2009, the first-ever female poet laureate was appointed by Queen Elizabeth. The position has been around for over 400 years, Carol Ann Duffy is the first female and held the position until 2019. The poet laureate used to make 200 pounds a year and receive a cask of canary whine. Nowadays, the poet receives a barrel of Sherry.
She Has A Personal ATM
The queen and the entire Royal Family never have to worry about finding an ATM to draw cash, if they need to withdraw a couple of funds they can simply do it from their basement. The queen has an ATM in her basement just in case she ever needs cash. The ATM at Buckingham Palace is for the Royal Families use, who knows what they do with cash anyways. This is super cool imagine just having a cash-machine in your basement.
She Used The Internet Before Most Others
Queen Elizabeth went to a telecommunications research center on March 26th in the year 1976. The center in Malvern, England had just received ARPANET, this computer network would soon evolve into the internet. The queen sent an email using the username: HME2 (for Her Majesty, Elizabeth II). This made her the first monarch to utilize the internet. The queen has had some incredible opportunities and experiences in her lifetime, and it is remarkable to think how much she has witnessed. However, this is not all the Queen has done or should we say can do…
Can’t Sue Queen E
Legally no one can ever sue the Queen for anything. This rule extends saying that she also does not have to provide evidence in a court of law if she wishes not to. naturally, the Queen can also never be prosecuted or arrested. Basically, the Queen is above all laws- however, we all know she conducts herself ever so gracefully.
She Does Not Have To Answer The Press
In many countries just like in the United Kingdom, there is a freedom of speech/ information rule which gives the public and press the right to ask whatever they would like to. The Queen used her power to halt this law from involving the Royal Family and this gives them the right to withhold any information they would like or not answer whatever questions they do not deem appropriate.
Queen E Can Begin A War
She has so much power that she can start a war against any country at any given second she would like to. These decisions are executed and fully discussed by parliament but they always need the Queen’s full permission and her signing off on such matters. Imagine being able to declare war, now that is some kind of responsibility.
The Guardian Of All Kids
This power means that the Queen is the legal guardian of all the children in the United Kingdom. Meaning, if she wanted to she could legally take away someone’s child. Although the Queen has never done this it’s pretty cool to kind of think that the Queen is your parent. Does this mean all individuals from the UK are actually royalty?
She Made All Grandkids HRHs
It may come as a surprise but only Prince George was entitled to be a prince and titled is Royal Highness. However, the Queen signed a degree in 2013 which is known as Letters Patent. This entitled all of William and Kate’s kids to follow to also be regarded as prince or princesses. This is the reason that Charlotte is titled “Princess Charlotte” instead of “Lady Charlotte” as well as, Louis is referred to as a “Prince” rather than a “Lord.”
Accepted Flowers From A Bystander
The Queen is not allowed to accept flowers due to safety precautions. She probably gets showered with gifts and little gizmos that fans and people want to give her. An Instagram mom who is an influencer by the name of Laura Ann Barr thought she would try her luck. Barr was one of the 8,000 people invited to one of the multiple garden parties the Queen hosts- she knew exactly which path the Queen would use and was ready to hand over a gorgeous bouquet. She succeeded and the Queen quickly handed them over to an assistant. Another rule broken.
Inviting Meghan Markle To Christmas Early
The Royals gather every year at Sandringham, the Queen’s estate in Norfolk, to celebrate Christmas. Usually, only spouses and immediate family are invited, never girlfriends or fiancees. However, The Queen wanted to make Meghan feel welcome knowing it was her first Christmas in England and that she had no family. The following year she also invited Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland. A majorly generous display from Queen E.
Her Political Comments
The Queen is often referred to as, “Elizabeth The Silent.” However, it is evidently seen the independent woman is not shy to use her power when necessary! She made a comment on Brexit which stirred the pot a little. In the past, she has also commented on when Scotland wanted to go independent as she urged them to stay which is majorly forbidden usually. The Queen also took a stance on Apartheid and was not shy in urging for sanctions.
Queen E Was A Soldier
Queen Elizabeth has been the only female royal to join the military. She truly broke the boys only tradition and served in the Armed Forces where she was under the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service. The Queen learned how to fix truck engines and did her part just as any soldier did. She felt truly passionate about World War II and serving her country.
She Attended Multiple Funerals
Royals are not supposed to attend funerals as it overshadows the funeral and honoring of the person who died but the Queen has made a couple of exceptions in the past. Queen Elizabeth attended the funeral of Louis Mountbatten who was a close relative and her friend, however, she has also made exceptions for the prime minister, close friends and individuals like Margaret Thatcher, Princess Diana, and Winston Churchill.
She Bowed Her Head To Honor Diana
The Queen broke tons of rules and protocols after Diana’s death to accommodate her grandsons and do what she felt was in their best interest. One amazing thing she did was authorize a proper ceremonial funeral for Diana which she was not actually entitled to due to her divorce from Prince Charles. The Queen bowed her head at Diana’s coffin as it was being rolled from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, monarchs do not bow their heads for anyone.
Royals Should Not Be Touched By Non-Royals
Royal protocol states that no one should touch royals, of course, handshakes are accepted. However, when Michelle Obama met the Queen she felt compelled and drawn to lay a hand on her back- a warm gesture. The Queen responded politely and went with it. a true lady, or ladies- both of them. Michelle Obama discusses it in her book and said that the queen responded by placing a gloved hand on her back too. This is something very unusual but the Queen is not shy to break a rule or two.
The Queen Must Be The Last To Finish Eating
This may not be a rule she can break but we think it is a pretty cool rule for everyone else. It is more of a rule of etiquette for those around her; those seated with the Queen have to do just as she does and copy her every love. Meaning if Queen E stops eating everyone stops eating, the entire table will pause until she restarts again. Now, that is what we call commanding a crowd.
The Queen Can Vandalize
This does not mean that the Queen is going around spraypainting all of London or breaking down monuments but rather that she has the right to forcefully enter or destroy property under the circumstances of a national emergency. Sounds a tad scary and cool all at the same time, but it is specific to circumstance.
She Does Not Have To Abide By Any Law
Well, thankfully we did not start with this one as it would not have been as interesting. Queen E does not have to follow any law she is literally above all rules and laws. However, her modesty and gracefulness allow us to know that she only breaks an occasional rule that may be old fashioned or she finds unnecessary, shes willing to sway and innovate a few old ideals.
Two Parties Are Better Than One
A birthday is somewhat always exciting, an occasion that comes around once a year, well not if you’re the Queen. She is truly the only person who can get away with celebrating her birthday twice, months apart in fact. Her actual birthday is in April but her public birthday happens on the second Saturday in June. She does this for the favorable weather conditions for the annual Trooping the Colour birthday parade. THe Queen is not the only one who is a rule breaker but here are some rules that the other royals can break as well a some she made to keep them in check…
No Travelling Together If You’re Inline
Heirs to the throne are not allowed to travel together, this rule was implemented in case of any possible accidents. An accident could endanger multiple heirs and interfere with succession. It makes sense as if one heir to the throne is injured the next needs to be readily available and ready to step in line. This is actually a tactic many families use, both parents will not travel on the same plane without their children in case something had to happen. However, William and Kate received special permission until their children are 12-years old.
No Raw Food
The queen made this rule for all royals that states they should not eat any raw foods, raw fish, shellfish, and a few other things to avoid any risk of food poisoning. Queen E said that food poisoning is something that can interfere with royal duties and the royals’ ability to perform them. She’s tough with sick days we’re guessing. Prince William and Prince Charles have been spotted breaking this rule though.
Don’t Need A License Plate
Well, it makes sense Queen Elizabeth does not need a license so surely she does not need plates. Her registration is rather unnecessary, if she ever had to be pulled over we think she would surely be recognized and if not her security detail would definitely give it away. It is not like the Queen is ever going to receive a speeding ticket or be reprimanded for her driving.
Autographs Are A No Go
Royals are forbidden from handing out autographs or signing anything unofficial. The reasoning behind this is to prevent any kind of forgery, the method prevents anyone from using or mimicking their signature. However, we know that some of these rules are bent here and there and it was rumored that in 2010 Prince Charles gave out an autograph when he visited people that had suffered from a natural disaster.
Living It Up With Nana
There is a centuries-old law that states that the Queen is automatically a legal guardian of all grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she has legal custody regardless of anything. Thus, the Queen is legally a guardian to Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte, Archie Harrison, and Prince George. Something tells us, ty wouldn’t mind living it up with Nana at Buckingham Palace. In usual scenarios, if a grandparent wanted to obtain custody they would have to take it to court.
Tutors And Home School Are Usually A Must
Members of the royal family have always been tutored and home-schooled within the palace, they never attended school outside of the royal palace. However, this rule was broken by Princess Diana when she sent her sons William and Harry to private school. Nowadays William and Kate have decided to do the same, giving their kids some sense of normalcy and the ability to make friends and experience a normal school.
Age Is Just A Number
Age limits when it comes to drinking, driving, and even seeing the Chelsea Flower Show are taken rather seriously in the U.K. The flower show doesn’t allow kids under the age of 5 into the gardens but Kate made a little exception to the rules when she brought her kids to come see just what she had done. Before opening the gardens to the public they got to see a little peak, we wonder if she will be so cool when it comes to clubbing at an early age…
When She Stands We All Stand
It is a fundamental rule that when the Queen stands everybody stands, as well as when she enters or exits a room it is required for everyone to stand. Commanding this kind of attention in a room is something magical, however, the Queen is most likely very used to it. This rule is a sign of respect just as there are a few other behavioral respectful things expected…
Practice Those Curtsies And Bows
Another rule that executes respect for the Queen is that men have to bow and women curtsy when they greet the Queen. Although these gestures are not as profound as they were seen in the movies, they are rather subtle. A little curtsy by dipping down with one leg placed behind the other and men simply bow their heads.
The Queen sends signals with her purse, imagine being able to convey a message just by where your purse is placed, it is also a way for her to avoid any awkward situation. When the Queen places her purse on the table it signals she is ready to wrap the meal up and leave. When she moves her purse from her left hand to her right hand it signals that she wants to end the conversation she is currently in, imagine that, swapping your purse and the conversation is just over.
PDA Is Not Royal
Although this rule is somewhat broken more and more often nowadays, PDA is generally frowned upon and especially when traveling. There are a few awkward pictures of married royals standing shoulder to shoulder next to one another. Royals are supposed to remain conservative and specifically when traveling to prevent making anyone from another culture or belief from feeling uncomfortable.
Bridal Parties Only Allowed To Be Children
Well if this is not the cutest bridal party we are not sure what is. Royal wedding bridal parties consist only of flower girls and page boys, there are no adults in the bridal party. This is rather cute we think, and it is most likely to avoid extremely large bridal parties and ensure all is organized and intact. The girls scatter petals just as normal and there are more page boys than there usually would be.
Nicknames Are A No
When you are royalty you should only be referred to or addressed by your full name, your given name that is. Royals will not be addressed using any nickname that may have been given to them by their family or close friends. After marriage Kate is no longer addressed as Kate but rather by her full name, “Catherine.” Once again this is something that has been broken since Prince Harry’s given name is actually Henry, who knew?
Hats Are Culture
The royal women are required to wear hats to formal evens in the day, this is something most of the aristocrats do. The transition from hat to tiara occurs after 6 pm, a quick change into the diamond-encrusted magnificence. If you’re lucky enough as royalty you may just be loaned something from the crowned jewels. However, only married females are able to wear these breathtaking tiaras.
