Jan, the parents’ friend, shared what it was like. “It was stressful and emotional. We were all out there just walking back and forth, from one end to the other, yelling her name,” she shared. Time went on, and people began losing hope. They were all stumbling into each other as they called out the little girl’s name. It didn’t feel like anything other than a disorganized search party after a little while.

There were fewer people actively looking for her a week after that. Several of the volunteers have already given up. Those who were still doing rounds at night were also beginning to feel discouraged. So many possibilities were possible. Alice might be in the fields, in the woods, or a lot further away. They found no clue that would guide them in the right direction. It felt like they were looking for a needle in the middle of a haystack.
