It filled the room with a chorus of emotions. Some people, while others were gasping, were smiling. As well as tears, there was some cheering. Two figures sat in front, waiting impatiently for their turn. As the verdict was read aloud, the hospitable figures’ faces began to turn red with rage. The other people in the room were unable to stop laughing at the spectacle. Where has this room been? Why was it filled with people and different feelings? Who were the figures who were impatient? Keep reading to find out what happened.
A Kind Granny
Daniella goes to various churches with her grandmother. However, Daniella loved to help her grandma out in any way she could, so she would help cook for the church of her grandmother or even help organize events. Daniella was always looked at fondly by the older woman and treated her granddaughter with kindness. Two people tried to exploit her kind nature. They thought that they could get away with such a nasty trick.
A Member For Decades
Grandmother Edith, a devout worshipper, had been attending the same church for nearly five decades. She went to an Evangelical church in a suburb located in the Bible Belt of the South. By putting in her share of hours, she made sure to do her part for her church. Every Sunday, she was in the nursery and would organize events and cook breakfasts and dinners. She taught children for Youth Bible Study even on Sunday nights.
Gave Her Time And Money
Also, Edith would give the church a portion of her pension each month. A truly generous individual, she wanted to help the church in any way she could. Daniella even remembered Edith driving from their retreat to the city to get some evangelical equipment forgotten by her pastor. It wasn’t until Edith got back to the retreat the next morning. She hasn’t even received a simple thank you.
This greatly annoyed Daniella. Pastor James, Pastor McConnel’s advisor, had no idea that it was Edith who picked up the slack each time he slipped up. Daniella might say, though, that her grandmother didn’t really mind that much. Edith was always positive and would tell her granddaughter that the one who would repay her generosity would be Jesus. Regardless, Daniella felt terrible that her grandma was getting this kind of treatment.
Edith, unfortunately, had an accident. She could do little else at her age other than lie in bed. She also had several slowly emerging health problems. Because of these things, Edith became more reclusive, and Daniella could only watch the changes in her grandmother unfold. For ten years, Edith had been confined to the inside of her home, and a long time had passed since she last went to her local church. She still tried her best to reach out to individuals, however. Unfortunately, her offers were rudely dismissed. And Daniella has seen all this.
Life Slipping Away
Edith’s body may have been slowly deteriorating, but her mind was still powerful. She always mentally trained herself every day and never drank alcohol. Even though her family tried their best to stay close to her, they could say that Edith was truly sad that she could not worship in church. When the older woman went to the hospice, she felt like she was near the end of her life. Perhaps this was why she was adamant about organizing her funeral service. During this time, the real side of the pastor showed up.
Not Her First Choice
When her grandmother’s pastor, James, said he couldn’t help her and would rather send his subordinate, Daniella clenched her fists. He told her this after he made her wait for several days. Pastor McConnel was the one who came over. Obviously, because of her prior experience with him, he was not her first choice. He went straight to what Edith wanted at her service, speeding over the courtesies, and then, he brought up a particular subject-her will. In his eyes, there was a glint.
There was a lot of speculation about how much money Edith had saved during her lifetime. The church apparently heard about this as well. Something said by Pastor McConnel made Daniella shake with anger. However, her grandfather stepped in with rage in his eyes before she could speak her mind. This is what the pastor said: “Lay up your treasure in Heaven by remembering your church in your will.”
Edith’s husband told Pastor McConnel that talking about money during that time was inappropriate. The pastor then smiled at Edith and spoke about the service by taking a step back and rethinking his approach. He didn’t stop trying to slip the subject of money into their conversation, however. It was quite apparent that this was what really interested the pastor. Then, something happened that once again had Daniella shaking with range.
Bawling Her Eyes Out
Her grandma cried. Throughout the years, the family had grown to appreciate that Edith wasn’t a “Steel Magnolia” but was more like “Titanium Coated With Diamond, Wrapped In Kevlar.” Even though she shed tears for other people, she had never done it for herself. At that time, however, the frail woman cried her eyes out. This is why the pastor was forcibly kicked out by Daniella’s grandfather, a Korean War combat veteran and former Marine Sergeant. Six months later, they saw the conversation’s final results … and Edith’s incredible payback.
The family was heartbroken when Grandma Edith passed. At the funeral, however, there were a lot of happy stories and laughter shared. The pastors were not invited upon request but were told to come to read the will. They were both asked to sit in front of the room, where the whole family could see them. They didn’t know that Grandma still had a few surprises up her sleeve.
Abuzz With Excitement
“The Reading of the Will” became something like a tradition to Daniella’s family, an excuse for everybody to get together for a “family reunion.” This took place in a conference room located in the office of the lawyer. To the rafters, the room was packed. There were great aunts, great uncles, great uncles, great aunts, great uncles, and many grandchildren. However, special seats facing the room, abuzz with excitement, were given to the two pastors. There were rumors that there were a few ‘surprises’ in the will.
It became apparent when the will was read that the generosity of Edith remained well past her passing. As well as substantial gifts of money, everyone received mementos. Then the church’s turn came. As they were thinking about their share of Edith’s estate, the pastors were looking ravenous. The older woman was, after all, a long-time member of their church. The lawyer took out a letter that had been drafted specifically for them by the grandmother.
Grandma Edith’s letter read, “For the past 10 years, NOT ONE person has ever called me, come to visit me, or sent me a note to tell me that they cared about me. Not one minister, not one deacon, not one of the church women, not one of the church members who I worked with for all of those years, loved dearly and thought were my friends.” She added, “I worked very hard for you when you needed me, for many, many years. But when I needed you and your church, you all pretended that I didn’t exist.” Near the back, Daniella was trying her best to contain her giggles.
The letter then exposed all of the pastors’ poor conduct and greed. Edith described how when they were trying to take her money. The two had only shown interest. Edith’s letter continued, “I realized that I had allowed my church to break my heart for one last time. But that was the last time. The VERY last time.” However, because the next portion was the payback, this was not the end of the letter.
The Will Had Been Prepared
20 Percent Of Her Estate
The lawyer then resumed reading the letter. “Pastor McConnel did not know it when he visited me, but Grandpa and I had already prepared my will, long before his visit, which did include a double tithe – twenty percent – of my ENTIRE ESTATE, for what was now my former church. But I felt bad that we had not personally remembered such nice people as Pastor James and Pastor McConnel. So I changed my will to include them by name. While I was at it, I changed the amount of money that I left to the church.”
“I’ve included money to reflect the love they and the church haven’t given me over the last ten years,” the lawyer continued. Both the church and pastors received one cent each. As the pastors were sitting visibly in front of the entire family, the two looked like “someone had injected a gallon of novocaine into their jaws,” according to Daniella. The family was struggling to contain their smiles. There was one more strike, however. Edith’s grandma was not finished.
One Last Bequest
The lawyer continued, “There is one last bequest,” pausing for dramatic effect. By then, all the eyes in the room were fixed on the pastors who, after Grandma Edith served them a brutal comeuppance from the grave, were doing their best to compose themselves. As Daniella and her family tried to hold their laughter, they knew that this was just Grandma Edith’s way of setting the two greedy pastors up for a one-two punch.
Upon hearing the enormous amount that her grandmother initially planned to leave the church, Daniella nearly fell out of her chair. When the lawyer named a different congregation, she listened in awe. That was the moment when the pastors’ eyes widened. The pastors’ faces changed from looking unbelievable to a look of pure horror. Grandma Edith taught these two pastors a lesson they’re never going to forget.
It had slipped a couple of times that the pastors were the opposite despite preaching tolerance. For really questionable reasons, their audience remained mostly Caucasian. Both Grandma Edith and Grandpa fought against it for years and even thought about leaving the church because of it. However, they reasoned that by example and their words, the best thing they could do was stay and teach tolerance. Edith ultimately made sure to teach one final lesson, which had the whole family nodding in agreement.
In a Reddit post, Danielle stated: “Their faces displayed the same expressions of shock, dread, and horror that they would have if the lawyer had said, ‘This bequest goes to The Demonic Baby Eaters to buy extra large rotisserie barbecue grills and tons of charcoal.’” Daniella explained, “Too many white Southerners, this was one of the most personally insulting things you could do to them. It simultaneously labeled them as racists, condemned their bigotry, and crushed their delusions of white superiority.”
A Lesson Of Tolerance
The amount that Grandma Edith left the other congregation if the pastors had just shown kindness was the same as what her former church would have received. The old couple had apparently been sharing their money with the place they felt it deserved. The pastors left the room in a hurry after figuring out the letter’s content for them. As for Edith’s strength, it was still a story that the family had told for years.
Daniella’s story got big on the ProRevenge thread on Reddit. The post has received more than 1,600 comments to date. However, there was one interesting question: “What was the pastors’ reaction after that?!” Daniella responded by saying, “We had all been swallowing our uproarious laughter since the “one cent” bequests had been read…. the whole meeting quickly devolved into utter chaos. If I remember correctly, (the pastors) left in a huff, which was made comically more difficult by the fact that they had to push past over a dozen of Grandma’s heirs, between and the room’s only door, who now knew what scumballs they were.”
What Happened Next
Daniella continued, “If I remember correctly, I heard through the family grapevine that some lawyer representing (the pastors and church) did call my uncle and threaten to dispute the will.” She continued, “My uncle’s response was, ‘If you do that, everything that happened in that meeting will become a matter of public record. Are you sure you want that in the local newspapers and on TV?’ That’s the last my uncle ever heard about it from them.”
Julie Lisi was brought back in the early part of August 2018 to the year 1978. Julie comes from a nostalgic background, heirloom after heirloom gathered and handed down, and the notion of family items and generational giving was deeply loved. Little did Lisa realize that on a typical day at an ordinary Goodwill store, she might come across an item of enormous value to her.
A Step Back In Time
Let’s fly back to Willoughby, Ohio, in the year 1978. Lisa has just moved to a picturesque new suburban house with her family. A life that was simple and normal was what the Lisi family led. Her son played outside as much as he could, and he was heavily into sports and was a massive outdoor fan. Team sports became a central part of Christopher’s upbringing, and he played in the local baseball league. In the afternoon, playing sports was one of his favorite hobbies, and he wasn’t an inferior competitor either…
Start Of The Season
The start of the season was coming, and Christopher was thrilled to demonstrate his abilities. He was excited to see his mates on the pitch joining him. In one of the league’s games, it was clear as the game continued that Christopher’s team was going for victory. Christopher was showing his ability and was already able to tally up several home runs. While the game continued, his team maintained their advantage, and at the end of the ninth inning, they had prevailed!
The Mitt That Never Made It
With enthusiasm, passion, Christopher was overwhelmed, and he just felt a part of the city and the team, just going. This game was a significant one for them to win and make a change in their league placement. Christopher and his colleagues were so pleased that he had unintentionally left a mitt behind on the pitch. Juice and orange bits were passed around in celebration, and Christopher was too involved to even care about his glove. He was in such a cloud already that he left it behind until the festivities had ended.
As Christopher got home, he scampered into his suitcase, flipping it totally upside down. He couldn’t find his winning glove anywhere. He concluded that he had lost his cap on the pitch. He got on his bike and went to the pitch right back as he rushed past his scrimmaged stuff. He was gazing far and wide around the field, but his lost mitt was gone.
Forty years later, and 1978 still seems to be a vague memory. He remembers the day with their baby, Christopher, as if it were yesterday, and since that day, he has been able to sense victory, defeat, and everything in between. He reflects, of course, on the celebratory elements of being with his teammates, winning the award, as well as the orange bits and energy drinks. Christopher remembers and recalls, however, at the age of 52, that he misplaced his best asset, his glove. Little did he suspect that a glove would carry his life back quickly…
The Thrift Store
As she did every day, Julie was doing some thrift store shopping on the other side of the country. To collect lost treasures from the thrift store, Julie liked to wander through the islands. While she spent hours browsing and digging around the store, the nearby Goodwill was a love for her. Julie thought she’d think about the sports section of Goodwill, mixing things up a little. Julie was never in this segment, and when she stared at all the stuff, something caught her eye for a moment…
What Should Be Done?
Julie was always a lady with compassion and generosity. She always promoted peace and loved to devote herself to others in need in every way she could. At Goodwill, she bought all the products and gave contributions as well. Goodwill shops often donate their profits from selling second-hand goods to charities. However, these stores have become local attractions for the odd knick and knack, as well as some enjoyable and genuine pieces. Goodwill has almost become the grandmother of thrift shops and an event of note for thrift store buyers and couples.
Bottom Shelf Of Wonders
As Julie wondered and analyzed the isles, anything on a lower shelf captured her greatest interest. The racks at Goodwill are usually cluttered, clustered, and very difficult to sort through, but what she discovered caught her by surprise. In a shop where items are often concealed and overlooked, she did not believe that. When she stared at the piece, it all came rushing back to her, the exact day in 1978 when Christopher lost his precious mitt. She studied the item then, and she wasn’t wholly positive yet. Could it be?
An Astonishing Find
What are the chances of discovering a misplaced mitt in a thrift store, generations later, while on the other side of the world? Seriously. Generally, losing anything means it’s lost for good, never to be noticed and discarded again. For Lisi, for 40 years, the glove had been MIA, and there was no hope of having it also. However, on this random day, which was just a regular day for Julie’s fate, she had a scheme of her own for Lisi’s…
Christopher’s Missing Mitt
Julie picked this strange and recognizable item from the rack, she didn’t realize why she was picking it up. Very frankly, it wasn’t something she was fascinated by and wasn’t stuck out in any way. She studied the item a little, flipping it over, and there was a black marker on it, to her horror. She and her baby were more than a thousand miles away from Ohio, but she just realized that she had noticed something wrong.
Blast From The Past
At that moment, Julie knew just what she had magically found. She looked in Willoughby, Ohio, as if she had suddenly teleported straight back to 1978. Julie remembered how devastated her son was and how she realized that the experience had stuck with him for years and how the mitt had always been valued. She suddenly came across the special glove in the most unexpected spot at such an unlikely moment. How could it possibly have gotten there?
Julie was surprised, as she should have been. The odds for anything like this to happen are less than one in a million, and she just couldn’t believe it. We won’t either. As she was stuck with a chance, she had no idea where to put herself or what to do. The glove had meant so much to her son, and she realized he would be even more surprised than her when she confronted him with the astonishing discovery. This will make Christopher willing to overcome the mystery of his lost glove.
Assistance At Its Finest
Julie was soon confronted by a well-known and popular store worker, Sue Rounds. Rounds was a nice face, and a hard worker at the store-she decided to know if Julie needed any help as she stood there for quite a while watching the mitt. Sue Rounds asked Julie if she could get some support, and she answered, “The glove!”
An Unheard Of Scenario
Sue Rounds was quite surprised and astonished by the reaction of Julie. She asked Julie to clarify what she was referring to. Julie told Rounds about the story that happened all those decades ago, about Christopher and the mitt. When she said Rounds the tale, the surprise was mutual. In all her time, Sue Rounds had never come across such a story, and she was fully aware that the possibility of anything like this occurring was almost unlikely.
The Big Purchase
This was big, never mind the emotions, Julie realized, but the revelation itself was just one of the most exciting discoveries she had made, but the story as a whole was unheard of. She was powerless to help but internalize how slim the chances of this glove being potentially discovered are. The odds were not in her favor or any of her family members for that reason, particularly in locating the mitt so far from its initial place of loss. The fact that she had to buy a mitt for her kid wasn’t really a question, but she had a lot of questions…
Donations To Goodwill
Julie was a donor of goodwill, but she was confident that she had never donated the glove or seen it since the day it was missing. Julie wanted to wonder how the glove came to Goodwill and assumed that the store maintained some form of database of who donated the items. She’d have to think of that one, but right now, she was mostly in a state of shock and disbelief.
An Actual Miracle
It is no wonder that this revelation, and this story as a whole, is a mystery. Another significant part is that the mitt made it in such a decent shape after all these years, it had been 40 years, and the quality was still good. Julie was filled with emotion, watering her eyes, and she was amazed that so far from Ohio, she had found the mitt. Perhaps this was the biggest thing in her life that had happened to Julie, and the press would quickly pick up on the story as well.
No Records And No Tracking
A local news broadcaster, WPTV, got word and wanted to roll with it when citizens were shocked by the discovery. The story started gathering traction. They did a segment on the missing mitt’s tale, as it was completely unheard of and such a remarkable story. Specifically, Julie told them she would love to meet the individual who gave the glove that eventually guided her to locate it. She was committed to thanking them. Nonetheless, Goodwill does not hold records, data, or other information about the individuals who contribute.
A Lisi Family Heirloom
Nevertheless, she was ecstatic with the finding, despite being unable to locate the initial donor to grow because of it. They symbolized her family and history and helped her remember the memories she had created and focus forever on them. Julie liked nostalgic things and everything about it that had any sort of feeling. Julie indeed realized that Christopher would love the discovery much more than she did, and she was happy in anticipation of his reaction.
Any Price For The Mitt
Julie called Christopher with intense enthusiasm to clearly explain to him what had just happened. She understood the value of the glove and how much it meant at the moment to him. He was completely overjoyed but shocked at about the same moment. The glove was only $1.59, but the benefit was invaluable for the family. The tale now surrounding the mitt made it much more precious for the family.
There was no assurance that Julie should have learned how to arrange the day’s activities. There was no way to believe that the mitt was still going to be there, and there were slim prospects of her stepping into that particular section. The chances of her discovery of this 40-year-old possession were not on the cards of anyone. She was shocked and overwhelmed at the exact moment—her luck was literally incredible.
An Ending Of Dreams
There was a happier conclusion for the Lisi family to the tale of the lost mitt. Losing objects that have a nostalgic value may be tragic since certain pieces are somewhat irreplaceable. There is an incredibly low probability of these items being discovered, and so Julie and her son Christopher were pleased and optimistic about their story’s conclusion. She will forever notice the grin on her son’s face.
Giving To Goodwill
The family always urges people to offer goodwill and assist them and the cause. Such an immense organization led them to an unbelievable discovery, leaving them with more than an heirloom but a story to be carried forward for decades to come.
Finding The Donator
The family always hopes that they would be able to thank the person who gave this mitt and hope that someone will come out with all the advertising and advertising. To top off the one-of-a-kind story, it would be the only other item.
