“A picture is worth a thousand words,” is one of the most common sayings we had heard since we were young. Photographs could be useful because we could tell what someone, something, or someplace looked like in the past. We could get a lot of information by observing the photographs and looking at the smallest detail. Producing and sharing photos used to be an extensive process, and a lot of unique photos had been lost. In this article, we compiled a list of beautiful and rare historical photographs from various cultural icons.
Grace Kelly And Her Laughter
Grace Patricia Kelly was born on November 12, 1929, and she started her acting career when she was 20. Grace Kelly appeared in numerous successful movies where she partnered up with romantic leads older than her. The actress ended her career when she became the Princess of Monaco when she married Prince Rainier III in April 1956. In these photos, we could see that Grace Kelly tried to contain her laughter but miserably failed. The photos were originally taken by Howell Conant while on vacation in Jamaica in 1955.
Young Mahatma Gandhi
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi, was an Indian activist, lawyer, politician, and writer. He was born on October 2, 1869, and died when he was 78 years old. Mahatma Gandhi used nonviolent civil disobedience to lead the Indian Independence Movement against British rule. It inspired several other movements for freedom and independence all over the world. We were able to find a photo of the young Mahatma Gandhi in 1921, and this was taken a year after he started leading the Indian National Congress.

Norma Jeane Mortenson was more commonly known with her screen name, Marilyn Monroe. She was born on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles and died when she was just 36 years old. Marilyn Monroe was an actress, model, and singer who became famous because of her blonde bombshell roles. Even after her death, Marilyn Monroe was still the major icon of pop culture. We had procured a photograph that featured an average version of the 12-year-old Marilyn Monroe, who had brown and curly hair as she grew up in America.
Baby-Faced Bruce Lee
Lee Jun-fan was most widely known as Bruce Lee. He was born on November 27, 1940, but died when he was just 32 years old. Bruce Lee was a Hong Kong American actor and was deemed to be the most influential martial artist of all time. Bruce Lee also closed the gap between East and West and changed the way Asians were represented in Hollywood movies. And yet, we were able to find a picture of Bruce Lee as a thug in one of his first television roles in Los Angeles.
Linda Carter Before She Became The Wonder Woman
Lynda Jean Cordova Carter was born on July 24, 1951, and was most famous for her role as the star of the television series Wonder Woman. In the picture to the left, she was a wild-mannered model in New York who looked just like Clark Kent in her glasses in 1970. The middle photo featured Lynda Carter’s sultry side, which helped her win in the Miss World USA pageant. We could see in the right photo that Lynda Carter competed in the international Miss World competition and reached up to the semifinals.

Eric Marlon Bishop was born on December 13, 1967, and was known by his stage name, Jamie Foxx. He became famous for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 biographical movie. Jamie marked his name as one of the biggest names in Hollywood, and it was not surprising when someone came across an old high school photo of him and shared it with the world. We would like to extend our thanks to the one who shared the photo. This picture featured Jamie Foxx in his basketball uniform from Terrell High.
Blondie on a Hot Tin Roof
Angela Trimble, more commonly known as Debbie Harry, was born on July 1, 1945, in Miami, Florida. She was an American actress, model, singer, and songwriter who became part of the band Blondie. Debbie Harry’s recordings with the band earned the number one spot in the charts both in the United States and the United Kingdom from 1979 to 2017. We managed to find a photo of the lead singer that was captured in a candid moment where Debbie Harry stood on a New York City rooftop in 1978.
Jack Nicholson and His Daughter
John Joseph Nicholson was an American actor, director, producer, and screenwriter that was most known for his stage name, Jack Nicholson. In most of his films, he played the role of the rebel against the social structure. Jack Nicholson was active in the industry from 1953 to 2013. The actor was typically remembered for his intense acting as he achieved numerous Academy Award-winning roles. However, we could see Jack Nicholson’s lighter side as he played around with an 11-year-old daughter, Jennifer, on the set of a film in 1974.

Dona Drake was 3/4 black heritage and presented herself as Mexican. The celebrity was famous during the ‘40s and ‘50s in Hollywood cinema, and Dona Drake received more than 30 major movie credits under her belt. We were able to see a photo of Dona Drake taking a dip in an outdoor bathtub that was captured for Paramount Pictures last 1941.
An Artist Going to Work
Paul Jackson Pollock was born on January 28, 1912, in Cody, Wyoming, who died last August 11, 1956. He was an American painter that was marked for his abstract expressionist movement. One of his painting techniques was called action painting, where he could view and paint his canvases from all angles. In this photo, we could see the famous painter with his signature cigarette on his mouth. He was about to open the barn door to his studio named The Springs in East Hampton, New York.
Maurice Tillet was born on October 23, 1903, in Ural Mountains, Russian Empire, but died when he was just 50 years old. He was a French professional wrestler that was more known for his ring name, The French Angel. Maurice Tillet was the leading box office draw during the early ‘40s and won twice in the Heavyweight Champion by the American Wrestling Association, which was run in Boston by Paul Bowser. It was deemed that Maurice Tiller was the inspiration for Shrek, the green ogre, in the well-loved animated movie.
Sigourney Weaver And A Hotdog
Susan Alexandra “Sigourney” Weaver was born on October 8, 1949. She was an American actress famous for her role as Ellen Ripley, where she earned an Academy Award nomination last 1986. Because of this, Sigourney Weaver was deemed as one of the most influential female protagonists in film history. The actress had been caught in a compromising, yet funny, shot when she was about to take an enormous bite from a hotdog in front of the Tail O’ the Pup hotdog stand in La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Chaplin Meets Helen Keller
Sunnyside was a 1919 American short silent movie that was written, directed, and starred by Charlie Chaplin, and it was his third movie for First National Pictures. The film ran for 34 minutes, and Chaplin’s co-stars were Edna Purviance, Henry Bergman, Tom Wilson, and Olive Ann Alcorn. The iconic film star, Charlie Chaplin, met Helen Keller, a political activist in 1919 on the set of Sunnyside. In the picture, Helen Keller used her hand to see what Chaplin was like, and it was surely a touching moment between two famous people.
Sigismund Schlomo Freud was born on May 6, 1856, and was more commonly known as Sigmund Freud. He died on September 23, 1939, at age 83 due to his jaw cancer. He was an Austrian neurologist and was the founder of psychoanalysis, which was a clinical method to treat psychopathology through dialogue between the psychoanalyst and the patient. Sigmund Freud was the one who proposed that the human psyche could be divided into the id, ego, and superego. We could see the Austrian psychiatrist posing next to a sculpture of him.
Just Miming Around
Daniel Sorine had been strolling in New York City’s Central Park last 1974, and he came across two mimes. Daniel excitedly approached them and captured numerous photographs, and 35 years later, Daniel Sorine decided to take a look at his old photos and saw the pictures for the second time. He recognized one of the mimes as the up-and-coming actor Robin Williams. By the time he sorted through his albums again, the mime was already an international Hollywood superstar.

Francis Albert Sinatra was an American singer, actor, and producer who became more known as Frank Sinatra. Frank was deemed to be the most popular and influential musician of the 20th century as he sold more than 150 million records all over the world. Frank Sinatra was also considered to be the most romantic singer in history. We saw a picture of a young Frank Sinatra posing for a mugshot when he got arrested for “carrying on with a married woman” in 1938, Bergen County, New Jersey.

William Gary Busey was an American actor who appeared in more than 150 movies like Black Sheep, Carried Away, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Lethal Weapon, Lost Highway, and The Gingerdead Man. Gary Busey also made multiple guest appearances like Entourage, Gunsmoke Walker, Impractical Jokers, Law & Order, Scrubs, and Texas Ranger. Only a few people knew Gary Busey’s musical background even though he started his career as the drummer of The Rubber Band, and later on, became part of Carp that released one album on Epic Records in 1969.

The news of his death broke people’s hearts. He was an American professional baseball player, and his career in the Major League Baseball lasted for 22 seasons from 1914 to 1935. Babe Ruth became famous for being an outfielder for the New York Yankees and also established countless pitching records. Aside from baseball, he also loved hunting, and this photo showed Babe Ruth holding up a fowl that he shot when he went on an old-fashioned hunting trip in Pennsylvania.

Jackie Chan was a celebrity known for his slapstick acrobatic fighting style, comedic timing, use of improvised weapons, and creative stunts. PT-109’s Famous Captain
John F. Kennedy was an American politician who served as the 35th President of the United States from January 1961 until his assassination in November 1963. PT-109 was a famous patrol boat of the Pacific Theater during World War II. It was commanded by the Lieutenant, junior grade, John F. Kennedy. The Japanese destroyer Amagiri collided with PT-109 on August 2, 1943, and cut the vessel in half. JFK led his men to an abandoned island where they were able to survive for six days before they got rescued.

Alicia Christian “Jodie” Foster was born on November 19, 1962, in Los Angeles, California. Jodie Foster was an American actress and director who won two Academy Awards, three British Academy Film Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and the Cecil B. DeMille Award. As a director, Jodie Foster had also been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. When Jodie Foster won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival because of her role in Taxi Driver, the actress decided to release some of her giddiness by riding a skateboard.

Ernest Hemingway grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. After he graduated from high school, he became a reporter for a short time in The Kansas City Star. Before he decided to leave the Italian Front to join the army as an ambulance driver in World War I. In the year 1918, he attained a serious injury and was returned to his home. In the picture, we could see Hemingway on the second man on the left side of the photo. Besides him were a nurse and soldier at the American Red Cross hospital in Milan, Italy.
Mixed-Race Filipino Woman, 1875
Sangley was used as an archaic word in the Philippines. The word was applied at the beginning of the Spanish colonial period to categorize the people as a mixed Chinese and Filipino lineage. Later, in the history of the Philippines, Spanish called the people in the country as Indio. The photo that we could see was shot in the year 1875 by the Francisco Van Camp. The term Intsik was meant to be Chinese, while Tsinoy, also known as Chino, was a Chinese person who was born in the Philippines.

Alber Einstein was the person who created the theory of relativity. He was born on March 14, 1879, and also produced the most well-known equation, E=mc2. Albert had several love affairs in his life, like Margarita Konenkova, who was declared as a Russian spy and had a code name, Lukas. People heard rumors that she also had a relationship with various well-known men, including Sergei Rachmaninoff, a famous composer. Brad Pitt was a well-known actor in the movie industry. Later on, he also became a film producer. Brad Pitt also became one of the successful actors in Hollywood. The actor won several awards, including two Golden Globe Awards, Academy Awards, and also a Primetime Emmy Awards. In the Image, they were seen at Wellesley College in 1969 talking to each other, where both of them were still an undergraduate student.
Who Is This Actor?
Tommy Lee Jones was a famous American actor and filmmaker. He earned several awards like the four Academy Awards and also got the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in the film The Fugitive. When Tommy was still studying at Harvard University last 1960, he was the roommate of Al Gore, who later became the Vice President. Tommy was also in the College football team, and he was the guard. In the picture, we could see how he posed for a picture while wearing his jersey of Harvard’s undefeated football team in 1968.
Morgan Freeman was a talented American actor and film narrator. People knew him because of his acting skills in the incident of 9/11, where terrorists attacked New York with the use of an airplane, the actor volunteered to help the people as a fireman in Ground Zero, which we could see in the picture.

We all knew that The Beatles were one of the most famous bands in their era, and the band consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison. They won different awards like Grammy Awards, Brit Awards, Academy Awards, and many more. The Beatles produced a song that became a hit in the world. The sad part was, John Lennon was killed because of a gunshot while Harrison died because of lung cancer.
