Hundreds of people residing in India were bothered when they began hearing a loud sound one day that seemed to be coming from an animal crying for help. Knowing the animal well, as soon as they listened to the noise, the locals knew that it was coming from an elephant. Fun fact – elephants are one of the Indians’ beloved animals. With that being said, it’s expected that they’d do anything just to make sure that elephants would be in a safe place. Continue reading to know what the locals did to respond and rescue the elephant that was once in danger.

Not Messing With Elephants

When I said that elephants are one of the Indians’ most beloved animals, I did not mean that they are used to having close contact with them. Seeing and interacting with an elephant would be a rare occurrence for Indians. Despite that fact, the locals are always keeping in their mind that elephants would always be one of the most majestic animals in their land and they should never be messed with – because as long as they are not troubled, elephants would never hurt people, too.

One Of Their Homes

In the picture, lots of elephants can be seen – with that, it can be assumed that the place they’re standing on is one of their homes. Well, the area that was captured in the picture is called the Urulanthanni River. It’s a place where a bunch of elephants lives. People, who happened to go there and see how some of the elephants would march together, have shared their experiences of just letting the elephants do what they wanted to. Most of them adored seeing the elephants march all together.

A Very Unfortunate Event

Marching all together is already a part of their routine. Doing a procession is something that elephants are very used to doing. However, no matter how good you are at doing something, unfortunate events and accidents are never avoidable, and that just happened to one of the baby elephants that were marching all together one day together with their parents. When they were already crossing the farmland, a baby elephant slipped and got itself into a dangerous situation as it was not that used to walking along farmlands.

The Baby Elephant Fell Into A Hole

Together with other elephants, which included adult elephants, other baby elephants, and its parents, one baby elephant suddenly slipped and fell into a mud hole as it was walking along farmland. All of the elephants, who saw it fall and heard its blaring crying sound reaching out for help, did not know what to do to rescue the baby elephant because the hole was too deep. On the other hand, the baby elephant also didn’t know what to do as it could barely move because of the sticky mud.

Crying Out For Help

Even though it badly wanted to get out of that hole, the baby elephant could not do anything but cry out loud for help. All the elephants that were also there got alarmed of the situation but also did not know what action and response to do to save the baby elephant. The baby’s crying sound was getting louder and louder as the situation got more difficult to deal with – the baby elephant could barely move because of the sticky and thickset mud.

Crying Out For Help

Crying Out For Help

The Only Smart Move

Seeing the baby elephant being helpless as it got stuck in the hole was a painful sight to the elephants that were in the scene. They knew that they had nothing else to do aside from crying as well to call for help from the people around the area who’d hopefully hear them. The elephants cried out loud all together – each sound just kept on getting louder and louder. If you’d come to think of it, what they did was a smart move. What do you think?

It Was Not Working

Even though how loud the elephants already cried, there were no signs of other people coming to help. That just made the elephants feel worse, and the pressure of seeing the baby elephant struggle more made the elephants very frustrated. However, they knew that they should never give up, and with that being said, they did not stop crying for help. Maybe some things just genuinely do not work because after several minutes, there was still no one responding to their call for help. They had to do something else.

They Were Losing the Baby

A few hours had passed, and there was still no one who came to help them. The baby elephant was already starting to look very tired as it was too tired to move in the cramped mud hole. The other elephants did not stop crying out for help, though they were already starting to lose some hope as they saw the baby elephant looking exhausted. On the brighter side, that look on the baby’s face motivated the elephants to think of something to do just to rescue it.

No One Gets Left Behind

With all the crying and other gestures that the adult elephants made to help the baby elephant, it can be said that just like humans, elephants have a strong principle that they live up to when it comes to family. No matter what situation they would get themselves in, good or bad, no family member should ever get left behind. They would do anything and everything to help any member just to make it feel safe once again. Well, that’s nothing but an adorable idea to think about, isn’t it?

The Situation Just Got Stickier

Going back to the baby elephant’s situation, time flew fast during that day, and there was still no single person coming there to help. The baby elephant was already looking so exhausted and restless, and that hurt all the other elephants that were in the scene. What made them feel more frustrated was the fact that they weren’t able to think of other things to do to help the youngest member of their family – other than crying for help, there was nothing they could do.

The Situation Just Got Stickier

Still No Progress

There was still no progress happening in the situation after several hours already passed. The sunlight just got stronger, making the mud in the hole harden, which wasn’t great – that even made it way harder for the baby elephant to move its body parts. With that being said, the baby got more exhausted, and it could be seen in the expression of its face. A few moments later, it already began closing its eyes out of fatigue, and for the other elephants, that sight was heartrending to watch.

They Had One Last Resort

As the title says, they had one last resort. It was still connected to crying out for help, but this one was already more intense. They usually do not make this sound often as they only cry this loud whenever they would feel so upset. In the situation wherein the baby elephant was so close to passing away, the other elephants were left with no choice but to make that deafening trumpet-like sound. Did it work, though? Keep on reading to know what happened next.

No Holding Back

They were already at the point where they were ready to do anything just to save the baby elephant that was in a dangerous and critical state. With that being said, the adult elephants did not hold back at all – they cried and made the trumpet-like sound so loudly, hopefully enough to alarm everyone who was near the area. They cried out loud for a long period – it was difficult for them, but they had to do it for the youngest elephant in their family to be rescued.

Trying for the Last Time

Even though it was already so exhausting and fatigue won its body, the baby elephant tried one more time to help itself and climb the hole. However, the mud was already so thick, so it was already impossible for it to move freely. As expected, it failed to climb up the hole and slipped again. The baby elephant’s drive to get out of that mud hole was fueled by the patience and determination of the other elephants that were making the very loud trumpet sound to cry out for help.

People Finally Heard Them Out

After several minutes of crying in a very loud trumpet-like manner, locals near the area were finally able to hear the sound coming from the elephants. Once they heard it, they already knew that the blaring noise was coming from a group of elephants but what they weren’t sure of was the place where it was exactly coming from. Well, despite not being sure of the location, the people were already aware that a group of elephants was crying out for help. Keep on reading to know what happened next.

They Were Very Curious

Hearing the blaring trumpet-like sound that the elephants were making, locals who were near the area could just not afford to ignore it. They were actually very curious to the point that they went out of their homes and walked towards the sound – they were carefully listening to the loud noise in order to successfully track down the location where the elephant’s crying noises were actually coming from. Knowing that they were unsure of what they could encounter, the people carefully did each and every action they had made.

Several minutes after carefully following the loud sound they kept on hearing, the locals realized that they already reached the Urulanthanni River. That was the very moment when they got to confirm that the sound was truly coming from a group of elephants. After clearing that idea out, the next thing they were unsure of was the reason – what could have made the elephants cry that loud? Well, the locals thought that for sure, the animals were in danger. They would never make that sound if they were not upset.

They Wanted To Help

Knowing that a group of elephants may be in a dangerous situation, a lot of locals took a risk by going into the forest just to track down the exact location of the elephants. Yes, they were so nervous because, despite their calmness in nature, elephants would always have the violent and terrifying side that no human would like to see. However, all of the people who wanted to help did not let that threat get into them – all they wanted that time was to rescue the elephants.

Overcoming Their Fears

Wait! Let me clear out the statement I’ve said in the past slide. I have mentioned that even though elephants may have a calm nature, they can still be violent at times. Well, that is true because elephants would do anything and everything if anyone would be threatening them with anything involving their territory – so coming close to them may be a little intimidating to the animals, making them kind of close to being violent anytime. Well, the locals had only one intention at that time – to help the elephants.

They Didn’t Know What To Do

As soon as their eyes landed on the elephants, the locals saw that only one elephant was in a dangerous situation – a baby elephant was stuck in a mud hole. After seeing the animal looking so uncomfortable in the situation it was in, the people tried their best to think of a solution on how they could get the elephant out of the hole. However, the gap was just so cramped – no one could get the baby animal out. That was the sign that they had to call official rescuers.

Waiting for Authorities

After a resident called the nearest rescue department, he was told to wait for the authorities to arrive. While waiting, it could be seen in the baby elephant’s expression that its body was already about to give up. Well, that was a concerning sight to all the locals in the scene, but they had nothing else to do but wait for the rescuers to arrive. It could also be seen in the other elephants’ expressions that they were too worried about the baby elephant.

Finally!

Several minutes after patiently waiting for the authorities to arrive, the people were so happy to see the rescuers arrive at the location. The group of authorities immediately went out of their vehicle and went straight to the mud hole where the baby elephant was stuck. Everyone was hoping that the baby animal would be saved immediately and also wished that it would not suffer from a bad injury once an animal expert would check it.

Finally!

The Situation Called For Something Else

As soon as they arrived at the scene, the authorities investigated the whole situation. After knowing that a baby elephant was stuck in a cramped mud hole, the team knew that their workforce would not be enough, so they had to inform every one who was there that they would go back to their department to get the equipment needed to rescue the baby elephant. That alarmed the people because what if the baby animal’s situation would just get worse? Keep on reading to know what happened next.

Watching Over The Elephants

After the group of rescuers left the forest to go back to their department to prepare a piece of much more extensive equipment, some residents decided to stay with the elephants for the night. They said that they could not afford to let the animals wait alone, so they gave them company. The night passed, and the baby elephant was still stuck in the mud hole. Well, I think that what the residents did was so thoughtful, and they deserve recognition!

The Day Has Come

When the sun had risen, the locals didn’t feel that well as they were almost sleepless after watching over the elephants through the night. However, it seemed like they thought alive once they heard the sound of several cars coming their way. A local stepped up to check if it was the rescuers, and they were right – the rescuers were already there! At that time, not only was one vehicle present as five cars could be seen, which were followed by a huge excavator. Here comes the exciting part!

When the rescuers came out of the vehicles and went straight to the baby elephant, the residents were already confident that the baby elephant would be saved. Well, seeing how the authorities were packed with full gears and equipment, I am a hundred percent sure that you would feel secure and confident, too. Finally, after almost a day, the elephant would now be rescued! Imagine the relief that the locals and the other elephants felt during this moment – that must have been priceless.

The Audience Was Getting Bigger And Bigger

The rescuers started to work at seven o’clock in the morning. With the enormous excavator and all the heavy equipment that the team used, it attracted a lot of attention in the place – leading a lot of people to watch what was happening. Even though they badly wanted to know what was happening with the elephant, the people were asked not to be too close to the scene because it may be dangerous for anyone. They had no choice but to follow – for the sake of the baby animal.

Resorting To Plan B

The team of rescuers already had a plan in mind – get the baby elephant out of the mud hole by using the excavator they have brought. However, they did not expect the hole to be that cramped; the authorities had a hard time getting the baby animal – it could have been hurt if they pushed through with that plan, so they resorted to another plan. Their plan B was to make a pathway that would lead to the baby elephant. That was the safest way possible to save the animal.

No Pain No Gain

They began digging the mud by using the excavator and their very own man force to create a pathway where they could walk on to get the baby elephant out of the hole. A few hours already passed, and they still weren’t done with the task – their clothes were full of mud, and their bodies were already kind of tired, but they had to keep ongoing. Despite feeling exhausted, the authorities kept on remembering the struggle that the baby animal was facing, and that motivated them to keep on working.

People Already Helped As Well

If it were only the team of rescuers who would work on creating the pathway, it would still take a lot of hours before the baby elephant would be saved. Because of that, some residents already decided to jump in and help the rescuers digging the mud to create a path. With that being said, colossal progress could already be seen after several minutes of man’s work. Props to the locals who volunteered to help as well!

Thanks To The Huge Excavator

Also, let us not forget to recognize the equipment that the rescuers used to dig the mud to create the pathway leading to the cramped mud hole. Without the excavator’s presence, it would not be that easy to work on the path, and the task would not have been done the way it was done and the pace it was finished. It was very fortunate for the whole team that they happened to bring such equipment.

However…

A few hours after a lot of locals joined the rescuers in creating the pathway, they were already close to reaching the mud hole. Well, it seems like there would always be a counterpart or a “however” to everything great – they were almost done with the task when the huge excavator suddenly stopped working. That unfortunate event made a big pause for everyone who was working at that time as it needed to be fixed first before the rescuers and some locals could get back to work.

However...

However…

What’s Gonna Work?

I am a hundred percent sure that you are already aware of the famous motto, “What’s going to work? Team Work”. Well, that motto just reflected on what happened next. After the huge excavator suddenly stopped working, it seemed like one of the residents, who was helping the rescuers was, was an angel coming from above as it volunteered once again. Still, this time, it was already to fix the engine of the excavator after it happened to overheat. The whole team was fortunate at that time, don’t you agree?

What’s Gonna Work?

Back At It Again

Several minutes were needed to get the engine of the excavator fixed. After being able to function well again, the rescuers and the locals went back to work as well – continuing their task of digging a pathway on the way to the mud hole. This would not have been done without the people who helped in fixing the problem with the excavator, so props to the locals who worked with the engine! Let this be a lesson to everyone that teamwork would always be effective.

Anything For The Baby Elephant

When they were already so close to the baby elephant, they could already witness how tired it looked. That made them more eager to work even faster and do anything just to get the work done already. No one expected the rescuing time to take that long – not the locals, and even the rescuers did not expect it. Well, they had no time to lose hope and complain about what was happening – they had to use all of their time in saving the baby elephant.

Turned Out Successful And Safe

After working for another set of hours, the rescue team, together with the locals who volunteered to help as well finally created the pathway they were aiming for. That only meant that the rescue mission was already done, and the baby elephant could already be saved from the cramped mud hole it got stuck in. Look at the picture and see how the baby elephant looked after almost a day of being stuck in the hole – I don’t know how animals feel, but I’m confident that the elephant felt happy.

As soon as it got rescued by the team of rescuers and some local men who volunteered to help, the baby elephant got assisted on its way back to its family. Seeing how they reunited, even though they did not get that far away from each other, was priceless to see. The locals were also so happy for the elephants, and they were relieved the moment the baby elephant got out from the crumpled mud hole.

They Have Feelings Too

After reuniting, the elephants finally got the chance to cross the farmland all together – that time, the adult elephants were already very careful to assist the baby elephant so that it would not get into any unwanted incident again. With that, the residents saw how the elephants looked happy after getting reunited again, and that was when they realized that animals also had emotions just like humans. I hope this story would be inspirational to everyone to be caring for animals and always treat them well.

The baby elephant looked so alive after being saved from being stuck in the cramped mud hole. Well, that is not surprising anymore – after being stuck in a hole and after being unable to move that freely, anyone would be so happy getting out of that cramped space. Well, the baby animal’s joy was not the only view that was priceless. For the locals who were there during the whole incident, the sight of the family of elephants bonding all together once again was so adorable to watch.

Being Grateful

After crossing the farmland, all of the elephants turned their heads facing the rescuers and the locals who helped in rescuing the baby elephant. They all made the same sound as they raised their trunks – the noise they made was way different compared to the one they had made before calling for help. That time, the noise sounded alive – maybe it was a way of saying “thank you” to all the people who were concerned and helped the elephants. Well, this is just another proof that animals have feelings too.
