Although often confused with Maltese, The West Highland White Terrier is somewhat similar but are not the same! Yes, this dog breed is very warm and loving, but they do much better with children who are older. Westies are also suited for homes that have other dogs, they will adapt to your home and lifestyle quite easily. Overall, they do make fantastic pets for families.

This is one of our personal favorites on the list. Toy poodles make wonderful family pets no matter how young or old your children may be. As the smallest of the Poodle family, this dog breed has great temperaments and how can we forget how adorable they are. Additionally, they are hypoallergenic dogs which means they are perfect for people with allergies. Toy poodles come in a variety of shades such as black, white, apricot, and cream.
