The very first time he had seen it, he had not thought it’s a bruise on his kid’s arm. However, when he started to figure out just what it was and how it got there, everything dramatically changed. Understandably, as soon as he saw exactly what was going on, he became distraught! Why is the school bullying its student too viciously? He decided to stand up for his son and took a photo to show other individuals. So whoever thought this was a sensible idea should be able to take responsibility for what had happened to his kid.

She Did Her Research

Tara Chavez did her research on the schools in her section of Phoenix before accepting a position at Desert Cove elementary school. Before making that outcome, she considered everything, but it was not a matter she decided to take casually.

Well-Being Of A Young Boy

Along with other aspects, she had to keep in mind factors such as cost and class size. After all, her top priority was the health of her son. He was a sweet child, and she had to see for herself that he was treated fairly.

The School Sounded Perfect

To attend multiple open days, Tara went to the school. She thought that it would be great for her son to go to Desert Cove Elementary School, so she finalized the necessary legal documents and registered the young boy.

Controversy

She had no way of knowing that it was a decision that she would desperately continue to lament after it had all been said and done. This mother did not think it would be escalated to a public outrage! Many parents have decided to take action when learning about her hard times.

Everything Was Going Well

It was almost as if everything was working well after a full term at Desert Cove Elementary School. That made her husband very confident that Cayden performed well at school, and the school suited him perfectly.

School Ethos

The underlying philosophy of the school captured the attention of the parents, so, therefore, they were convinced it was a suitable place for the little boy. Besides that, his son liked and respected his teachers. But it soon became clear to them that their little boy is dealing with a big dilemma.

He Went Home Upset

After yet another day, Tara went to school to get little Cayden. She could tell that something was very unusual there as shortly after she saw him. And what was it, precisely? She just couldn’t recall any of it…

Bad Behavior

She automatically assumed that her fellow students, and maybe even their teacher, were tormenting her son. Tara also came to understand that her son may be a victim of bullying at that point.

Concerned Mom

She gathered her control of the situation and sought to change his mood the best she could, so she told the young boy how his day went. Like any other loving parent, this worried mom was eager to get to the root cause of the problem.

The Mark On His Arm

Cayden did respond with just a “fine” curt and kept his eyes fixed outside the window of the car. Tara politely approached her kid and asked if something had happened in school. Even then, he refused to give his mom anything more than another curt response. At that time, it was clear that he did not want to share anything that deeply affected him.

Thus, Tara decided it would be best not to pin him deeper into the topic. She let him have some space, and then they both agreed to talk more about it when they went back home. And from there she saw a blue mark on his arm.

He Was Branded

She craned her neck to get a better look at the thing on his arm. For a short glance, she thought it was all just dirt. And while a close observation made it crystal clear that this was not the issue.

What Did It Read?

Tara was only able to conclude that the mark had something to do with the reason for her son being so depressed. Nevertheless, she needed to understand the whole thing as well fully. After all, they do say a mother’s instinct is always right!

What Did It Read?

She Feared The Worst

This mom had a hint as to what was going on at the moment now, but she wanted to let the whole thing sit before they got home. She had to maintain her eyes on the road until they had reached their house.

Angry As A Raging Bull

Even though she let that go, her knuckles had turned white as she gripped the wheel very tightly. She did so since she knew it was tough for her to let her son see how upset she was. You just knew how deeply troubled the individual behind this would be. You don’t want to mess with Tara!

They Held A Family Meeting

As soon as they got home, Cayden decided to go straight to his bed. Even so, Tara promised he would not remain hidden without telling them the entire story. And after that, she called out her husband, took out a chair, and asked her son to sit down.

Perhaps It Was A Bruise

Mark, her husband, pulled up his son ‘s jacket to look at the thing on his arm. They initially believed it was a blister even though it was only ink. Did the kid write on his arm? The worried dad, even then, knows it couldn’t be real, especially after seeing the words on his face.

Written In Capital Letters

Their son Cayden had two words on his arm. In thick blue letters, the bold tint says, “LUNCH MONEY!” Why was it marked on his arm? Who would do that kind of thing? And especially for such a young boy.

The Lunch Lady

After that, Cayden told them the lunch lady put the words on his skin. It would appear that she tried to embarrass the poor boy in front of the whole classroom explicitly. The further her parents heard their son’s words, the more upset they seem to have been.

He Had No Choice

“I asked if the lunch lady gave him a choice, and he said, ‘No, she just grabbed my wrist and put the stamp on.’” When she was being interrogated, Tara explained while fighting back her tears. She was disheartened because her son was insulted in front of everyone.

And though Cayden could still afford to pay for his food, the lunch money on his account was minimal. And when she saw that there were still 75 cents in there, after the furious mother checked online, she was even more outraged. The stamp was taken by Mark and posted it to the website.

They Humiliated The Poor Boy

“He was screaming and crying the entire time,” the worried mother explained, “He was humiliated, didn’t even want me to take a picture of it.” And perhaps the most concerning issue here, in fact, was how humiliated the boy had been.

No doubt, it made him feel bad, but he had done a lot of work on his self-esteem. The school most often would be sent an alert via email if the lunch money envelope was still running low. Has the school ever been in a crisis throughout this particular instance?

The School Responds

Listen, regardless of what the school would have to say about the matter. Tara received an email not long after the post caught a lot of media attention. What had the school to say about all of this?

They Denied The Claims

The principal of the Desert Cove Elementary School, Stacey Orest, said the staff did not intend to shame the children with “reminder stamps publicly.” She also described in detail to Tara that the cafeteria workers were “supposed to ask them if they want a stamp or a reminder slip.”

Even so, Tara was not pleased with all with the explanation granted by the school. Every other parent who were tuning in to the story simply decided to abolish the “reminder” stamps finally. It was not all right anymore.

It Made His Blood Boil

Jon Bivens is the father of a third-grade student who attends the Gardendale Elementary School. A very similar situation had taken place to his family, not so long before this unfortunate incident. The little kid came home with something similar on his back. Hang tight, to see what’s going on …

Surprised

This dad indicated that he didn’t think much of it at first. ”I thought it was a good job stamp,” attempted to explain his initial indifference. Realizing it was a stamp with all these words, he made up his mind: “I need lunch money.” Jon was surprised because he would just be informed by then.

Bullying

He proceeded to share his opinion in a question and answer session, stating, “It’s a form of bullying and shaming the kids.” Won’t you reckon that it’s too harsh to enforce a “branding” system at cafeterias? What do you guys think?

Bullying

Greatly Humiliating

Desert Cove is a relatively affluent school — only 32% of students are qualified to apply for free or low-cost meals there. Thus, it can be possible to assume that singling out students whose account balance is low could be a traumatic experience for them.

‘Lunch Shaming’

It is not an excuse for how “lunch shaming” can lead students to completely miss meals, which in turn reduces their academic success as well as makes them more likely to repeat a degree or need guidance on mental health.

Deeply Apologetic

Desert Cove Elementary School eventually released a message that says, “It was never the intention of administration and staff to embarrass any student by using the stamp.” They have been very apologetic about all of it.
